“If [the Foundation of Excellence’s] SPIDER didn’t exist, I think I would’ve been very lost in high school. I don’t think I would’ve had a clear idea of what I needed to do in order to accomplish my dreams.”

I work with students [with special needs] and teach them how to code using Scratch (and hopefully this year using MIT App Inventor). I was inspired to start this program after the Hour of Code activity we did junior year where we invited the ESE students. I’ll never forget, when I was working with them and explaining the centers and what was happening, they were so curious, they were so excited, they had so many questions. 

I’m already an enthusiastic animated type of person, and so I was able to connect with them and just share my excitement and share my passion.  And then, they were so willing to just learn. So I felt more motivated to teach the students who were excited. And so I thought like, you know, “Why aren’t they taught programming?” So I reached out to one of the ESE teachers…

SPIDER

Our SPIDER College Preparatory program provides workshops, test prep, attire, mentors, college tours and character development. Our graduates have successfully attended schools such as Yale, Notre Dame, and the University of Florida.

STEAM Camp Rocks!

STEAM Camp Rocks! teaches kids 4 – 18 how to code while also emphasizing Mathematics, Science and innovation.. High school students are taught a variety of programming languages and trained to work with younger kids.
